About Taseer — Fabric, Handwork & Fit

A Bridal & Formal Velvet Lehenga for Mehndi, Nikkah, Walima, Engagement & Winter Weddings

Taseer is a dark green velvet lehenga choli by Waqas Shah, made for the cold-weather wedding season. The velvet is so deep that it turns nearly black by lamplight, and over it climbs a hand-worked jaal of gold zari and tilla flowers, vines and small leaf motifs, lit with sitara. A wide border of dabka, beads and zari weighs down the hem so the skirt falls in full, heavy folds, and a matching band defines the waist. The choli repeats the jaal, with a gold-edged round neckline, elbow sleeves finished in broad embellished cuffs, and an open back tied with a dori and latkans. Against all that colour sits a light ivory tissue dupatta with fine bootis and a four-sided embellished border. The three-piece set is made in our Lahore atelier for brides and their families at Pakistani, Indian and Sikh weddings.

How to Style Taseer

Gold and green belong together here: try a kundan or polki choker with emerald drops, a matching tikka and heavy jhumkas. For a bride's mehndi or nikkah, take the ivory dupatta over the head and let it fall to one side; for a sister or guest, drape it on one shoulder so the latkans stay visible from behind. Warm bronze make-up and a deep berry or brick lip suit the velvet, and gold khussas finish the look.

Taseer — Quick Answers

What shade of green is Taseer?

A very deep forest green velvet, so dark it reads almost black under evening light and shows its green in daylight. The gold zari jaal and the ivory tissue dupatta give it a warm, antique contrast.

Is velvet a good choice for a winter wedding?

Yes. Velvet keeps you warm through outdoor December and January functions, holds the flare of the lehenga without extra layers, and photographs richly at night.

Which functions suit this lehenga?

Mehndi, nikkah, walima, engagement and qawali nights, especially in the winter wedding season. The dark base also works for a valima dinner or a formal reception.

Can I wear it as a formal outfit and not only as a bride?

Yes. With lighter jewellery it becomes a formal look for a sister, cousin, bhabhi or close friend of the bride, or for an Eid dinner and family wedding.

Does it work for Indian and Sikh weddings?

It does. Indian brides choose deep velvet for the sangeet, cocktail night and reception, and Sikh brides for the roka, jaago and reception. Guests can wear it to any of these functions.

What embroidery covers the lehenga?

A hand-worked jaal of climbing flowers and vines in gold zari and tilla, scattered with sitara and small gold leaf motifs. A wide border of dabka, beads and zari runs around the hem, and the waistband is worked to match.

What is the choli like?

Dark green velvet with the same floral vine embroidery, a round neckline edged in gold, elbow-length sleeves finished with wide embellished cuffs, and a worked border at the hem.

What does the back look like?

The choli opens into a low back tied with a dori and finished with gold latkans that hang just above the lehenga.

What fabric is it, and what comes in the set?

The lehenga and choli are velvet, and the dupatta is tissue. All three pieces are included: lehenga, choli and dupatta.

How is the dupatta finished?

Ivory tissue with fine scattered bootis and a heavy embellished border on all four sides, edged in gold so it frames the face when draped over the head.

What does Taseer cost?

Rs.175,000.00 for the complete three-piece set, in sizes XXS to XL or made to your measurements, with free tracked shipping worldwide. Prices show in your local currency; checkout is in Pakistani rupees (PKR).

When will my order arrive?

About 4 weeks to make in our Lahore atelier, then 2 to 5 days within Pakistan or 4 to 11 days to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, UAE and other countries. If your date is close, message us on WhatsApp before ordering.

I recently bought a hand-embroidered dress from them and wow, it's stunning! The intricate zardozi work on the neckline and sleeves looks so rich and feels super soft on skin. Perfect for Eid or weddings – got tons of compliments from family and friends. Love their designs and quality is top-notch and worth every penny!
