A pishwas, also called an anarkali, is a long frock with a fitted bodice that opens into a wide, swirling flare from the waist, a line inspired by Mughal court dress. Ours fall to the ankle or the floor and are mostly cut in raw silk, with a few in net over a soft lining.
You will find three ways to wear it here: the classic pishwas with churidar or a straight trouser, as in Dur-e-Shahwar and Mehar un Nisa; an open-front pishwas layered over a lehenga, such as Malboos-e-Khas and Marigold; and full-length maxis, some topped with a worked coatie, like Sakina Bano. Handwork runs from mirror, tilla and sitara to pearls, crystals and resham.
Brighter pieces in mustard, neon yellow and rose pink suit the mehndi and mayon, while mint, beige and white sit well at a nikkah. Deeper blues, greens and black work for a wedding guest or the bride's sister.

What is worn under a pishwas: churidar, trouser or lehenga?
It depends on the design. Dur-e-Shahwar comes with a raw silk churidar and Mehar un Nisa with a straight trouser. Open-front pieces such as Fakhar un Nisa, Marigold and Mehr-e-Ishq are worn over a lehenga, which gives a fuller, more formal look.
What is the difference between a pishwas and a maxi?
A pishwas is fitted through the bodice and flares sharply from the waist, often with a heavy border at the hem. A maxi falls in a softer, straighter line, and some of ours, like Zeb-un-Nisa and Sakina Bano, add an embellished coatie on top. Both are floor-length, so the choice comes down to how much volume you want.
Which pishwas suits a wedding guest or the bride's sister?
Pieces like Pariza in black and mustard, Mirah in coral and Dur-e-Shahwar in blue are full enough for a wedding without competing with the bride. For a sister's mehndi, Sunshine and Chand R Mukhi bring the colour while staying light to wear.
How do I get the right fit on a flared pishwas?
