About Gurleen — Fabric, Handwork & Fit

A Bridal & Formal Lehenga for Mehndi, Nikkah, Dholki & Winter Evenings

Gurleen is a rust brown lehenga choli by Waqas Shah from the Shakuntala collection, in the deep cinnamon shade that sits between terracotta and burnt sugar. A fine jaal of climbing vines covers the lehenga and choli, worked in aari and tilla with tone-on-tone resham, and set with tiny shisha mirrors placed by hand. At the hem, the vines give way to a heavy border: rows of sitara and zari framing two broad bands of gold kairi (paisley). The choli is where the handwork shines. Its neckline, back and edges are finished by hand in aari, dabka, nakshi, sitara, beads and stones, and the full sleeves are hand-worked with lines of shisha, one row set in resham and the next in tilla. A sheer burnt-orange pure organza dupatta, rich in aari and sitara with a hand-embellished spray, completes the look. Made in our Lahore atelier, it is a bridal lehenga for the mehndi or nikkah, and, styled with lighter jewellery, a formal look for winter weddings, Eid evenings and family receptions, just as lovely on a sister or a bridesmaid.

How to Style Gurleen

Rust and gold belong together, so antique gold jewellery is the natural partner: a broad choker, chandbalis and a matha patti, exactly as in our haveli shoot. Keep the dupatta over one shoulder to show off the back latkans, or draw it over the head for the nikkah. Warm bronze eyes and a brick-rose lip pick up the cinnamon tone. Indian brides can wear it to the haldi, mehendi or sangeet, and Sikh brides to the maiyan, jaago or an evening reception.

Gurleen — Quick Answers

What colour is this lehenga?

A deep rust brown, close to terracotta or cinnamon, paired with a lighter burnt-orange dupatta. It reads warm and rich in daylight and glows under evening lights. Browse more Mehndi Dresses.

Which events is it best for?

Mehndi and mayun first of all, where earthy tones are a fresh change from yellow and green. It also suits a nikkah, a dholki or an engagement. On the wedding day itself, it is a striking pick for the bride's sister or close family. See all our Pakistani Bridal Dresses.

Can it be worn as a formal outfit, not just bridal?

Yes. Swap the heavy set for one statement necklace, pin the dupatta on one shoulder, and it becomes an elegant formal lehenga for a winter wedding, Eid or a family dinner. Browse more in our Luxury Formal collection.

Is it suitable for Indian and Sikh weddings?

Yes. Indian brides wear rust for the haldi, mehendi and sangeet, and many choose it for a cocktail evening. For a Sikh wedding it suits the maiyan, the jaago and the reception. For the pheras or the Anand Karaj, brides usually wear red, so on that day it is best for the bride's sisters.

What makes the back special?

The choli dips into a low back, its edges worked by hand in dabka, sitara, beads and stones, and closed by long latkans with mirror roundels and crystal tassels. A single-shoulder dupatta drape shows it best.

What embroidery is used?

The lehenga and choli share a vine jaal in aari, tilla, sitara and tone-on-tone resham, with shisha mirrors set by hand. The choli's neckline, back and edges are fully hand-finished in aari, dabka, nakshi, sitara, beads and stones. The dupatta leans on aari and sitara, with a hand-embellished spray.

Is the work handmade?

The finest details are. Every shisha mirror is placed by hand, the choli's neckline, back, edges and sleeves are hand-embellished, and the dupatta carries a hand-worked spray. The vine jaal and hem borders are embroidered, which keeps the pattern crisp and even across the whole skirt.

What fabric is Gurleen made in?

The lehenga and choli are cut in pure Indian raw silk, which holds the flare of the skirt and gives the rust a soft, natural sheen. The dupatta is pure organza, light and sheer enough to let the embroidery underneath show through.

What comes with the outfit?

All three pieces in the photos: the lehenga, the choli and the dupatta. Nothing is sold separately.

What is the price of Gurleen?

The full three-piece outfit is Rs.170,000.00, in any size from XXS to XL or made to your measurements, with free tracked shipping worldwide. Prices display in your local currency; payment at checkout is in Pakistani rupees (PKR).

How long will my order take?

Around 4 to 5 weeks to make in our Lahore atelier, then 2 to 5 days in Pakistan or 4 to 11 days to the UK, USA, Canada, Europe, UAE and other countries by free tracked courier. If your date is close, WhatsApp us before ordering.

How should I store an embroidered lehenga?

Fold it with tissue between the layers and keep it in a breathable cotton bag, away from damp, so the mirrors and sitara don't tarnish. Dry clean only, and steam the dupatta lightly rather than ironing over the fringe.

Outfit Details

Gurleen Lehenga

A full flared lehenga in pure Indian raw silk, embroidered all over with a vine jaal in aari, tilla, sitara and tone-on-tone resham. Every small shisha mirror is set by hand, so the skirt catches light softly as it moves. The hem is heavy and layered: rows of sitara and zari around two broad bands of gold kairi.

Gurleen Choli

A cropped choli carrying the same aari, tilla and resham jaal with hand-set shisha. Its sweetheart neckline, back neckline and lower edges are all worked by hand in aari, dabka, nakshi, sitara, beads and stones. The full sleeves are banded by hand with lines of shisha, alternating one row set in resham with one in tilla. At the back, long latkans with mirror roundels and crystal tassels close the deep V.

Gurleen Dupatta

A sheer burnt-orange pure organza dupatta with the same embroidery language, led by aari and sitara with touches of tilla and tone-on-tone resham. A spray of hand embellishment is scattered across it. A wide sitara and zari border with a soft gold fringe runs along the edges, and the ends repeat the kairi from the lehenga hem.

Gurleen Cut & Style

A classic three-piece Pakistani lehenga choli in a rich rust tone, balancing an embroidered vine jaal with a statement hem, a hand-embellished choli and a dramatic latkan back. Made to measure in Lahore, it moves easily from a bride's mehndi to a sister's wedding-night look.
