Rust brown is the warm, earthy alternative to mehndi yellow and green. Here is how to style a rust brown...

Rust brown is the colour of the season for brides who want warmth without the obvious yellow or green of a mehndi. It sits between terracotta and cinnamon: earthy in daylight, glowing under evening lights. Gurleen, our rust brown lehenga choli from the Shakuntala collection, brings that shade together with hand-set shisha (mirror work) and a sheer burnt-orange organza dupatta.
| Colour | Rust brown, with a burnt-orange dupatta |
| Lehenga | Pure Indian raw silk, vine jaal in aari, tilla, sitara and tone-on-tone resham, hand-set shisha, heavy hem with gold kairi bands |
| Choli | Pure Indian raw silk, full sleeves banded with shisha lines; neckline, back and edges hand-embellished in aari, dabka, nakshi, sitara, beads and stones; back latkans |
| Dupatta | Pure organza in aari and sitara with a hand-embellished spray and a fringed sitara-zari border |
| Best for | Mehndi, mayun, nikkah, dholki, engagement; the bride's sister on the wedding day; formal winter evenings |
| Price | Rs.170,000.00 for all three pieces |

Rust is a warm, earthy tone that flatters wheatish and olive skin especially well, and it makes gold jewellery look richer. Where mehndi yellow can wash out in photos, rust holds its depth under shaadi lights and in winter daylight. It also stands apart in a room full of greens and pinks, while still feeling traditional. The burnt-orange dupatta adds a lighter layer on top, so the whole look never feels heavy.
Every small shisha on the lehenga and choli is set by hand into a climbing vine jaal. When you move, the mirrors catch light softly rather than flashing. The full sleeves carry lines of shisha, alternating one row set in resham and the next in tilla, which is a detail you notice in close-up photos and on the dance floor.

Indian brides wear rust for the mehendi, sangeet or a cocktail night. For a Sikh wedding, Gurleen suits the maiyan, the jaago and the reception. For the Anand Karaj and the pheras, brides usually choose red, so on that day it is a lovely pick for the bride's sister.
After the wedding, swap the heavy set for one statement necklace, pin the dupatta on one shoulder, and Gurleen becomes an elegant formal lehenga for winter weddings, Eid or a family dinner. Raw silk holds its shape and sheen well in cold weather.
