About Sargun — Fabric, Handwork & Fit

A Deep Maroon Bridal & Formal Lehenga in Aari Tilla, Mirror Work & Hand Embellishment

Sargun is a deep maroon lehenga choli by Waqas Shah, cut in pure Indian raw silk and covered in a flowing jaal of vines, leaves and blossoms in aari tilla work, golden sequins and resham. Small mirrors are set by hand across the lehenga and choli, each one held in place with resham and tilla. At the hem, wide bands of sequins and sequin-filled rosettes give the skirt its weight and catch the light as it moves. The choli is hand-embellished along the plunging V-neckline, the lower edge and the back with pearls, seed beads, cut dana, crystal stones, Swarovski crystals, naqshi, tilla and resham, and at the back gold doris end in long latkans and tassels of gota, mirrors, golden pipe beads and gold patti. A sheer ivory pure Indian tissue dupatta, worked in aari tilla, golden sequins and resham and sprayed by hand with pearls and Swarovski crystals, carries a wide maroon border embroidered in the same work as the lehenga (without the mirrors), with a pure copper kiran fringe on all four sides. Made to order in our Lahore atelier.

Who Can Wear Sargun

Sargun is both bridal and formal. A bride can wear it to her baraat, nikkah, walima, engagement or mehndi, and her sisters, cousins, bhabhis and friends can wear it to any of the same functions; it suits any guest at a shaadi, including a shendi or qawali night. At a Sikh wedding it can be worn to the roka, kurmai, chunni ceremony, jaago, anand karaj and reception, and at a Hindu wedding to the sagai, sangeet, phere and reception. Brides and their families in Pakistan, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Europe order it online.

How to Style Sargun

Deep maroon and gold need little else. Choose gold or polki jewellery with pearls, the way the shoot pairs a temple-style necklace with jhumkis. For the baraat or nikkah, draw the ivory tissue dupatta over your head so the pearl and Swarovski spray and the copper kiran frame your face. For a reception or walima, let it fall from one shoulder so the latkans at the back stay on show. For a mehndi or qawali night, switch to kundan with a touch of emerald, wear a long braid with gajra and let the dupatta hang loose. Finish with berry or nude lips and gold khussas.

Sargun — Quick Answers

What colour is Sargun?

Deep maroon with golden aari tilla, sequin and mirror work. The dupatta is ivory with a maroon border and a copper kiran edge.

Is Sargun for brides or for guests?

Both. It is bridal enough for a baraat, nikkah, walima or engagement, and formal enough for a bride's sisters, cousins, bhabhis, friends and any wedding guest.

Which functions can I wear it to?

Mehndi, baraat, walima, engagement, nikkah, shendi and qawali night, and every Sikh and Hindu wedding function: roka, kurmai, jaago, anand karaj, sagai, sangeet, phere and reception.

What fabric is it, and what comes in the set?

Lehenga and choli in pure Indian raw silk, with a pure Indian tissue dupatta. All three pieces are included.

What work is on the lehenga?

An allover jaal in aari tilla, golden sequins and resham, with hand-set mirrors fixed in resham and tilla, and a wide hem border of sequin bands and rosettes.

Which parts of the choli are hand-embellished?

The V-neckline, the lower edge and the back are worked by hand in pearls, seed beads, cut dana, crystal stones, Swarovski crystals, naqshi, tilla and resham. The rest of the choli carries aari tilla, sequins, resham and mirror work.

What hangs at the back of the choli?

Gold doris with latkans and tassels made of gota, mirrors, golden pipe beads and gold patti.

What is the dupatta like?

Ivory pure Indian tissue with aari tilla, golden sequins and resham, and a hand-embellished spray of pearls and Swarovski crystals. The wide maroon border repeats the lehenga's embroidery, without the mirrors, and a pure copper kiran fringe runs along all four sides.

What sizes are available?

XXS to XL and plus sizes, or choose Customize and send your measurements for a made-to-measure fit.

What does Sargun cost?

Rs.165,000.00 for the full three-piece set, with free tracked shipping worldwide. Prices show in your local currency; checkout is in Pakistani rupees (PKR).
