What is an open-front gown?

The four pieces

The gown

The gown carries most of the work: crystals, pearls, sequins, dabka, naqshi, tilla and beadwork, set by hand. The halter-style collar and cutout bodice frame the neckline, and the train extends behind you when you walk in.

The inner blouse

The blouse sits under the gown and is worked in the same crystals, pearls, sequins, dabka, naqshi and tilla, so the layers read as one piece where the gown opens.

The lehenga

The lehenga is covered in sequin work. It shows through the front opening of the gown and catches the light with every step.

The dupatta

A soft net dupatta with heavily embellished borders completes the outfit. With a halter collar, many brides wear it on one shoulder or let it fall from the back of the head so the neckline stays visible.

Why misty blue for a walima

The walima is usually the softest-coloured function of a Pakistani wedding, and ice tones are a common choice for it. Misty blue is cool and quiet in daylight but still shows the sparkle of the handwork under evening lights.
