Black Lehenga for a Reception: How to Style Black Musk

Black has become the confident choice for receptions and evening weddings. Here is how to style a black lehenga as...

There was a time when black stayed in the wardrobe during wedding season. Not any more. At receptions, engagement dinners and late-evening events, a black lehenga has become one of the most confident choices a woman can make: it photographs crisply, flatters every skin tone and lets embellishment shine like nothing else. Black Musk, from our Amarige collection, was inspired by a forest at night and designed for exactly those evenings.

Black Musk at a glance

  • Silhouette: a fitted choli with scalloped cold-shoulder sleeves over a wide, flared lehenga.
  • Back: sheer net, finished with a beaded tassel tie.
  • Lehenga: net covered in floral sequin work, cinched by a zardozi waist belt embellished by hand.
  • Dupatta: net with hand-embellished borders on all four sides.
  • Best for: receptions, engagements, evening weddings; bridesmaids, the bride's sisters and guests.
  • Price: Rs.135,000.00, made to order in your size.

Black at a reception: yes or no?

Yes, and many women now prefer it. A reception is usually held at night under warm, dramatic lighting, and black holds its depth there in a way pale colours cannot. It also solves a common problem for bridesmaids and family: you look polished and festive without ever competing with the bride's colour. The secret is texture. A flat black can look severe, but sequins, beads and zardozi turn it into something luminous.

Design notes

Scalloped cold-shoulder sleeves

The sleeves leave a sliver of shoulder bare and end in a scalloped, beaded edge. It is a modern detail that still feels graceful, and it frames the collarbones beautifully for photographs.

A sheer net back with tassel tie

The back of the choli is sheer net with embroidered motifs, closed with a beaded tassel. It gives you a second "moment" when you turn, which is why we photographed it so often.

Floral sequins and a zardozi belt

Sequin flowers spread across the flared net lehenga like a garden after dark. The hand-embellished zardozi belt sits at the natural waist and makes the flare look even fuller.

A four-sided bordered dupatta

Because every edge is embellished, the dupatta looks finished however you drape it: over one shoulder, across both arms or around the back.

Who Black Musk suits

The bride's sister

Wear the dupatta across the front for family photos and switch to one shoulder for the dance floor. Black stands out beautifully next to a bride in red, gold or pastel.

A bridesmaid group

Black is easy to coordinate. Several bridesmaids in Black Musk, or in black with different jewellery, create a sleek, editorial line-up behind the bride.

The wedding guest

For a reception or engagement, it is a single outfit that feels both formal and fashionable, with no risk of clashing with the couple's colour scheme.

The bride, for her reception

Some brides choose black for a second evening look. Pair it with heavier jewellery and the dupatta set over the head for portraits.

Silver or gold jewellery?

With Black Musk, we lean towards silver, diamanté or crystal. The cool sparkle echoes the sequins and beadwork and gives a sleek, contemporary finish. Choose drop earrings or ear cuffs rather than a heavy necklace, since the neckline and sleeves already carry plenty of detail. If you prefer gold, keep it to fine, minimal pieces and add a single statement ring.

Black Musk or Lakshmi?

Both are black, but they are made for different nights. Black Musk is net with sequins and a cold-shoulder choli, made for receptions, engagements and evening weddings. Our Lakshmi is raw silk with gold tilla and a V-neck choli, made for qawali nights and evening mehndis; read the Lakshmi qawali night guide to compare.
