A Light Burgundy Velvet Lehenga Choli for Nikkah, Mehndi, Baraat & Winter Weddings

Bazaar is a light burgundy lehenga choli by Waqas Shah, cut in Micro Velvet 9000 for cool-weather weddings. Fine floral and vine embroidery in metallic thread climbs the whole skirt, lit with small embellishments and touches of mirror work, so the velvet glows rather than shines. The lehenga ends in a wide, heavily worked border at the hem, and a matching ornate band frames the waist. The choli has a V neckline outlined in embroidery, elbow-length sleeves with a worked edge, and the same floral vines across the body. A sheer organza dupatta completes the three-piece set, scattered with florals and framed by a heavy four-sided border with fringed edges. Each piece is made to order in our Lahore atelier for brides and their families in Pakistan, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Europe.

How to Style Bazaar

Burgundy velvet takes warm gold beautifully. A bride can wear a layered gold or polki set with a matha patti, as in our shoot, and drape the organza dupatta over one shoulder for photos. For a nikkah, bring the dupatta over the head so the border frames the face. Family members can keep it lighter with jhumkas, a slim necklace and the dupatta across both arms. A deep berry or brick-red lip and gold khussas finish the look.

Which functions suit it best?

Nikkah, mehndi, walima and reception, and the baraat for a bride who prefers a lighter look than a full heavy bridal. Because it is velvet, it is happiest at winter and evening events.

Is it only for the bride?

No. A bride can wear it for her nikkah or mehndi, and a sister, cousin or bhabhi can wear it to the baraat or walima with lighter jewellery.

Will velvet be too warm?

It is ideal from November to February in Pakistan, and for indoor or winter weddings in the UK, Canada and Europe. For a daytime summer function outdoors, we would suggest one of our silk or chiffon designs instead.

The lehenga and choli are Micro Velvet 9000, a soft, dense velvet with a rich fall. The dupatta is sheer organza.
