Olive Green Mehndi Lehenga: How to Style Mahira from the Shakuntala Collection

How to style an olive green mehndi lehenga for your mehndi, mayoun or dholki: fabrics, jewellery, dupatta draping and makeup,...

Olive green is the quieter, richer cousin of the classic mehndi greens. It is earthy, warm and sophisticated, and it lets golden embroidery shine. Mahira, our olive green mehndi lehenga choli from the Shakuntala collection, was made for brides who want their mehndi to feel festive and refined at the same time. This guide covers what Mahira is made of, why olive green works so well for mehndi and mayoun, and how to style it.

Olive: the modern mehndi green

Green has long been a mehndi colour in Pakistani and Indian weddings, alongside yellow and orange. Olive is a more modern take. It sits between green and gold, so it blends naturally with golden tilla and copper tones, and it looks rich in both daylight and evening light.

  • It flatters warm skin tones and pairs beautifully with gold jewellery.
  • It stands apart from the bright parrot and emerald greens that are common at mehndis.
  • It works across events: mehndi, mayoun and dholki for the bride, or an Indian mehendi and sangeet, and for her sisters and bridesmaids too.

Handwork you can see up close

Mahira is made to order at our studio on MM Alam Road, Lahore.

  • Choli: olive green Korean raw silk worked all over in golden tilla and aari embroidery with sequin, resham and mirror work, then hand-embellished with dabka, naqshi, pearls, Swarovski crystals, beads and stones along the neckline and the front and back hem.
  • Lehenga: Korean raw silk with all-over golden tilla and aari embroidery, sequins, resham and mirror work, finished with a wide embroidered border at the hem.
  • Dupatta: pure organza in the same olive green, with sequin borders, kiran lace and a pure tanba (copper) fringe.
  • Sleeve borders: tilla and sequin embroidery.

The copper fringe on the dupatta is a detail worth noticing. It picks up the warm undertone of olive green and moves with every step, which makes Mahira especially beautiful on video. You can see it in motion on the Mahira product page.

Putting the look together

Antique gold and pearls

Antique gold is the best match for olive green, because it echoes the tilla work without looking too bright. A polki or kundan set with emerald or pearl drops looks regal for a bride. For sisters and guests, oversized jhumkas and a stack of gold bangles are enough. Pearls also work beautifully, picking up the pearl embellishment on the choli.

Fresh flowers

White motia, yellow marigold and soft pink roses all stand out against olive. Floral gajray on the wrists and a gajra in a low bun suit the mehndi mood.

Showing off the copper fringe

  • Over the head as a veil for the mayoun and for photographs.
  • Over one shoulder to show the hand-embellished neckline and keep your hands free to dance.
  • Trailing behind for an entrance, letting the copper fringe catch the light.

Warm, glowing makeup

Warm bronze, copper and gold eyeshadow bring out the olive tones. A terracotta, brick or berry lip adds warmth. Soft, glowing skin works better than very matte makeup with the shine of the sequins and mirror work.

Mehndi colour on your hands

A deep, dark mehndi stain looks striking against olive green and gold, so plan your mehndi design to complement the choli sleeves.
