Not every bride wants red for every function. Many want one outfit that feels bridal at the engagement, soft enough for the nikkah and bright enough for the reception, without fighting the red of the baraat. Skin gold does exactly that: a warm, light gold that sits close to the skin and glows under evening lights. Saanvi, the skin gold lehenga choli from our Shakuntala collection, was made for that bride, and for her sister standing beside her. This guide covers what Saanvi is made of and how to style it for three very different days.

Skin gold sits between ivory and yellow gold. It is warmer than champagne and softer than antique gold, so it reads as bridal without looking like a second baraat outfit. In daylight the raw silk keeps a gentle sheen; under lights the sequins and tilla do the work. It also photographs well beside a bride in red, which is why sisters and bhabhis choose it as often as brides do.
The sweetheart neckline is the heart of the outfit. Its edges are finished by hand in pearls, crystal stones, sequins, naqshi and seed beads, over a base of tilla aari and sequin florals. The half sleeves end in a worked border, and the open back ties with gold doris that end in a handmade latkan of gota, mirror work and beads.

Small florals in golden tilla aari, sequins and resham are scattered over every kalidar panel. At the hem they give way to a deep tiered border of floral bands and sequin lines, which adds weight so the flare falls back into shape every time you sit and stand.
The dupatta is sheer pure organza with scattered sequin buttis, a wide tilla aari and sequin border and a fine fringed edge. It is light enough to wear over the head for hours, and the fringe frames the face beautifully in close portraits.

Wear the dupatta on one shoulder so the neckline shows. A statement polki or kundan choker with one colour stone, such as emerald or mint, suits the warm gold. Finish with a sleek low bun and soft rose lips.
Draw the organza dupatta over the head and pin it at the crown so the fringed edge frames the face. Keep the jewellery quieter: a choker, long earrings and a small tikka. The nikkah is photographed close up, so the neckline and the dupatta border matter most.

This is where the sequins come alive. A fuller set, a matha patti and bronze eyes suit evening lights. For an anand karaj, pin the dupatta in several places, because you will sit and bow on the floor more than once, and the raw silk flare spreads neatly around you.

When the bride is in red, Saanvi becomes one of the safest choices for her sister, cousin or bhabhi at the baraat, mehndi, sangeet or jaggo. Wear the dupatta loose over both arms so the kalidar flare can move, keep the jewellery a size smaller than the bride's, and the look reads as rich and festive rather than bridal.
Saanvi takes about 4 weeks to make, then 2 to 5 days within Pakistan by TCS, or 4 to 11 days to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, the UAE and Europe by DHL or SkyNet. Order at least six weeks before your first function. Not sure of your size? Choose Customize and send your measurements; our measurement guide explains how. Import duty, where it applies, is paid on delivery. Our country guides for the UK, USA and Canada explain what to expect.
Close, but skin gold is a touch warmer and softer, closer to the skin. If you want a cooler, paler champagne, compare it with Dilnashin.
Both. It is bridal at an engagement, nikkah or reception, and festive for a sister or guest at the baraat or mehndi.
Yes: the kurmai, roka, sangeet and reception, a modern anand karaj, and the sagai or reception at a Hindu wedding.
Dry clean only. Keep it in a breathable cotton bag with tissue between the worked panels, and roll the organza dupatta rather than folding it so the border does not crease.
Yes, at our studio at 39-A MM Alam Road, Gulberg III, Lahore. A short message on WhatsApp before you come lets us have it ready.
